Privacy Policy

This explains what Ball Knowledge collects and why, in plain language.

What we collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and a Google account identifier. We never see your Google password. We also store the display name you choose, and your gameplay data - daily answers, scores, guess counts, and win streak.

If you post a comment, we store its text, your account, and the date. Comments are visible to other logged-in users who've completed that day's question.

We use one functional cookie to keep you signed in, and a short-lived cookie during the Google sign-in process itself. We also set a first-party analytics cookie (a random identifier, not tied to your name or email unless you're signed in) so we can measure things like how many people play each day and whether people come back - including people who never create an account. It also records, once, how you first found the site (for example, a link shared on social media). We run this ourselves - it's never shared with or sold to a third-party advertiser or analytics company, and it's not used for ads.

What we don't collect

We don't collect payment information (the site is free), and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

How it's used

Your email identifies your account and lets you log back in. Your display name and scores appear publicly on the leaderboard and in comments - that's the point of a trivia leaderboard, so don't choose a display name you wouldn't want public. Top weekly and monthly leaderboard display names and scores may also be featured in posts on our social media accounts. We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Who else sees it

Google handles the sign-in itself, under Google's own privacy policy. Cloudflare hosts the site and, as part of normal web hosting and our abuse-prevention rules, processes standard connection information like IP addresses - we don't store your IP address in our own database. CollegeFootballData.com supplies the sports statistics behind each question; it doesn't receive any information about you. We also post each day's question publicly to our Instagram and Facebook accounts - those posts never include anything about you individually.

How long we keep it

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Want it deleted? Reach out (see below) and we'll delete or anonymize your account information. Note that removing your email doesn't retroactively erase historical leaderboard standings tied to your display name, since that would affect other users' records too - we'll talk through what's possible if you ask.

Changes

We can update this policy as the site changes. Material changes will be reflected here with a new date.
